Retooled, repurposed and reloaded
The three R’s for the new millennium. It’s the age of the unfinished project as fads come and go. Here, it’s no different. My interests are drifting towards the web and internet programming in general rather than desktop computing as they have been for so long.
This blog has been neglected for quite some time. I hope to change that, starting today.
One of the toolkits that has caught my attention is OpenLaszlo. In their own words:
OpenLaszlo is an open source platform for creating zero-install web
applications with the user interface capabilities of desktop client
software.OpenLaszlo is “write once, run everywhere.” An OpenLaszlo application
developed on one machine will run on all leading Web browsers on all
leading desktop operating systems.
I’ve used it to create an online slideshow and a new front end for Coppermine Photo Gallery. It’s pretty slick, with crossfades between images, direct image access, pause and resume, and since it’s Flash based it’s hard for your viewers to steal your images. I’ll reveal the url of the site at a future time.
Oh, for another OpenLaszlo image gallery, check out AppleJuice.
